Set in the trenches of the first world war this was my first film to be shot tin Kilkenny and I managed to utilise local talent and crew where possible. TFinanced by my own company and The Arts Council.

I worked closely with my director of photography, Cian DeBuitlear and his father Eamon to make this film for RTE. It is an exploration o the restoration of an old disused water mill which was lovely brought back to life.

This project was my first major editing documentary. We shot in the UK, Paris and Ireland and created a great film that was well received in film festivals. Music featured in this film from The Divine Comedy, Edwin Collins and The Frank and Walters from Cork and many others. Financed by the Irish Film Board.

I worked closely with the director of this project as a producer and we managed to bring this film all the way to the Berlin Film festival where it was very well received. This film was for RTE and The Irish Film Board.

This was my return to making a drama film in Kilkenny. We shot this over three nights in Mount Juliet, Borris and Kilkenny city with a stellar cast. This film won an award in the Heuston Film Festival in the USA in a horror category.

I was commissioned by The Kilkenny Arts Festival to make a film about hurling in Kilkenny. Over a few mounts I explored the roots of hurling in the Kilkenny and followed the County team to the all Ireland getting exclusive access to the dressing room and other areas in Croke park. This film was shown on TV3.

This was a major documentary for RTE, shot in Dublin and San Francisco and explored the underground gay performance scene. This was an exciting project that I edited it in a loose flamboyant style with great music and wonderful photography.

I wanted to work closely with another Kilkenny artist. This project was initially self financed and was an exploration of the creative process of an artist as he travelled the world making his work. Ramie Leahy is a local Kilkenny artist with the wide ambition to travel to exotic location in pursuit of subject. For a couple of weeks I followed him with my camera and this documentary emerged from our collaboration.

AGAINST THE SKY

RTE commissioned this film about the 2005 Everest expedition. For this film I travelled to rural Nepal and followed the climbers up to base camp and stayed with them until they summit the tallest mountain in the world. This film was made under the most severe conditions, where keeping the batteries warm enough to work the camera was one of many challenges. This film was shown on RTE and was one of they major Christmas TV events during 2005.

I love making films in Kilkenny and any opportunity to work in my home city I take. This film is an exploration of the flood relied scheme, an engineering marvel that uncovered many hidden treasures. Archaeology was a major part of this project and engaging with the deep history of our city was a pleasure.

This was my first editing project working as lead editor on a feature film.

(IFTA Nomination best Documentary) I shot this film in Ireland, and Italy and edited it in Dublin. This was a great film about a heroic Irish priest who saved hundreds of people during the second world war. Working on a film like this exposes you to very interesting people and some of the harrowing stories from Jewish people were included in the film. This film was commissioned by TG4 and the BAI.

I made this no budget film as a test to see if I could source cast and crew locally and make a film in a day. We shot this at Shankil Castle in Paulstown. This was an amazing experience and proved how possible it to make a film like this in Kilkenny. I managed to gather a team around this film using Artlinks and local media.

I shot films for Damir on Bull Island in Dublin using tracks and actors on the beech and in his studio using bright yellow lights and smoke.. It was a wild day and difficult shoot but the film turned out to be a very interesting art project. We finished the film in a studio using old street lights to create a stunning mood.

This was a film about Niamh’s home town and it featured a shoot I did driving around a mountain in a 25km arc and filming it from all angles. We had to rig a van to allow this this difficult and technically challenging shoot. The film was shown in the Douglas Hide Gallery.
